California State Holiday for March 31, 2014
Today is a California state holiday in honor of the late United Farm Worker founder and president, Cesar Chavez; this date was his birthday.
In 2000, Cal Governor Gray Davis (D) signed bill into law to go into effect the next year and we have celebrated it since. Thousand of people believed Chavez should be honored for the work he did in bringing fair treatment and dignity to farm workers across the state.
He is truly an American hero.

Celebrity deaths...
In the past few weeks we have lost some wonderful stars of past and present.
They made us laugh and cry in the movies and on TV. So many wonderful movies like "Imitation of Life" with Juanita Moore; adorable, talented little Shirley Temple in all her sweet movies that we can still watch today with grandchildren; Phillip Seymour Hoffman making us believe we WERE listening to Capote; Sid Caesar, king of laughs; Pete Seeger singing those great protest songs; Carmen Zapata, Phil Everly and on and on...Then, Ralph Waite as the dad from TV's "The Waltons". I say "good night, Pa."
Good night to all the others who have gone on.
